Score One For the USA

Today the USA won the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1999. The USA was a huge underdog and it was considered a foregone conclusion that Europe was going to win, it was just a matter of by how much. Well, thanks in part to two Kentuckians, the USA won by its largest margin since 1981. I saw a picture earlier of Boo Weekly. The caption below it said tat after he hit his drive on #1 he put his driver between his legs and pretended he was riding a horse down the fairway, Happy Gilmore style. Now that's awesome!

As Bad As I Can Remember

I have been following University of Tennessee football since I was a little kid. Obviously, as a child I really had no idea, other than I liked them and hoped they won. That being said, I can't remember a team that appears to be as bad and as badly coached as this one.

First, getting beat by a team that was clearly outmatched on paper and on the field (by the way the first half went) was not the way to start the season. It is clear from UCLA's last two games that they are not a very good football team. Second, UT had trouble through three quarters with a team that, again, was clearly outmatched. The final score did not indicate how poorly the team played. Then we come to yesterday. Tennessee was obviously outmatched. Florida won the game when they stepped off of the team bus at Neyland Stadium. All the press that the Florida players got from the statements they made through the week was clearly an indication of where this program is currently. Why would they respect Tennessee? Tennessee was totally out-coached. If a person looked only at stats, it would appear that at the very least you had a competitive ball game. If you watched the game, that clearly was not the case.

I have never been on the "fire Fulmer" bandwagon. I do not believe that simply because you have a bad season you should be fired. However, I do believe that this coaching staff does not have a good handle on what it takes to win in this league. A 5-6 season two years ago, and staring at the same kind of season this year has me wondering if I want to reserve a seat on that bandwagon. I bet there aren't a lot of seats left after yesterday.

Saturday Fun

Yesterday we were supposed to have breakfast with Allison's mom, then we had pictures at church in the afternoon, and then dinner at my brothers. I went to the grocery store Friday so that we would have time to spend as a family in between the plans that we had for yesterday. It turned out that Allison's mom was sick so we had all morning and afternoon to hang out. Cooper wanted to play outside so we got his soccer ball and went outside. After about 10 minutes he was over the soccer ball and said "Turn water on," and pointed at the hose. We agreed and he and I had a really fun time playing in the water. Allison didn't get wet, but I think she enjoyed watching us and manning the camera and the video camera. Here are some pictures from our day.

Thursday Nights

Allison is part of a Bible study that meets on Thursday night. That allows me some time to be with Cooper by myself as well as have some time alone doing what ever I choose. Tonight I have finished The Last Lecture and watched a little bit of N.C. beat up on Rutgers. I had an idea a few days ago and it just came back to me tonight. Over the next few weeks, on Thursday night, I am going to post some of the old pictures of Cooper starting with month 1 and going through the present. I am going to start tonight with the first five months. Enjoy!

Just Me and Cooper

The last few days Cooper and I have been "baching" it. Yesterday he melted down until we got off of the interstate. As we got on the exit, he started signing ABCs and everything seemed to be okay. I picked him up from school and headed home. He was very cranky and cried quite a bit on the way home. After we got home we went for a run. He seemed to really enjoy that as he "read" some books, sat back and enjoyed the ride, and stood up and led the way. After that we had spaghetti and took a bath. We then read several books, said prayers, and I laid him down.

This morning was very similar to yesterday. He was cranky and cried several times on the way to school. Again, as we got off the interstate he seemed to feel better and started singing. Today when I got him from school he was upset. He had just been bitten, just as he was yesterday, and was unhappy about it. When I got him he seemed to feel better and had a good ride home. When we got here I changed clothes and we headed to the park. We climed in the playground and Cooper went down the slide several time. After that we came home and had hot dogs, green beans, apple sauce, and maccaroni and cheese. After dinner, I gave Cooper a bath and again read several books. We said our prayers and he went down for bed.

I just love these times that we have together. It gives me a great appreciation for single parents. As much as I love it, I can't wait for Allison to get home tomorrow. Not that I can't take care of Cooper on my own, it is just a lot easier and much more fun when Allison is home.

It's Football Time...

...in Tennessee. In a little over 4 hours the Vols kickoff their 2008 season. Hopefully it will begin with a thrashing of UCLA.
